Window Safety Devices

As per NSW Window Safety Legislation, all openable windows above the ground floor level that are accessible to children from inside the building must have safety devised fitted. We are one of the leading supplier and installers for these devices in NSW.

The laws apply to openable windows more than 2m above the ground level outside and within a child’s reach (less than 1.7m above the floor inside). Safety devices must be able to limit the maximum window opening to 12.5cm. The window device will allow the window to be fully closed, locked at 12.5cm and overridden by an adult to fully open.

Openable windows with security screens, grills or devices already fitted will require an outward force test of 250 Newtons (25.5kg of force).

Window Lock Types

There are a number of window locks available on the market, the locks that we recommend due to the fact that they have been tested and approved for this purpose including the following;

 Remsafe / Venlock

• This device can be engaged with the push of a button
• The device requires a key to disengage the lock
• The device has overriding capabilities, allowing an adult to open the window all the way when safe to do so
• Keyed alike
• Complies with Australian legislative requirements

 Cable Lock

• The device enables the window to be open and closed to the restricted distance without the use of a key
• Keyed alike
• The device has overriding capabilities allowing an adult to open the window all the way when safe to do so.
• Strong high tensile cable can withstand a pulling force of nearly 20 times the minimum standard required by building codes and legislation.
• Complies with Australian legislative requirements
